Sustainable living with Dezeen X Mini Living

We feature the 3D PRINTED GAIA house made from biodegradable materials. Description: the house is a 30 square meter in Massa Lombard Italy region of Emilia Romagna.

The house is made with soil and agricultural waste from rice production by an innovation and creativity from an Italian 3D printing technology developer WASP-using Crane Wasp a modular 3D printer. A pure reflection of sustainability with regard to care, concern and conservation of natural resources, maximization of resources and minimizing waste; Gaia is a good example of what Rosette Eco Design is all about that is upholding ecological integrity and dignity in such concepts: material and resource concept as well as clean, organic and efficiency concepts.

Material and resource concept:

  • -use of natural mud mixture
  • -taken from surrounding site, use of agricultural waste
  • -recycling of materials from rice production such as chipped straw and rice husks.
  • -internal walls were coated with a bio plaster made from rice husks

Quality and efficiency concepts

  • -Thermal comfort, this has been achieved by using a 3d printer suspended from a crane creating walls with vertical cavities inside filled with rice husks for insulation.
  •  -Ventilation, outer cavity in the wall structure is kept empty for natural ventilation.
  • – Energy supply embedded within the walls of the house
  • -building performance, high energy efficiency with zero environmental impact -cost effective
